Create European Union Nutrition Facts Labels Easily & Quickly

Pre-packed food products have to bear a nutrition declaration. It must provide the energy value and the amounts of saturates, fat, carbohydrates, protein, sugars, and salt of the food.

Food companies have to declare the food nutrient information in a legible tabular format on the pack. If there is any space issue, the information needs to be presented in a linear format. The declaration is compulsory and it’s often provided on the back of food packaging.

The front-of-pack nutrition labelling is now easy to do and it’s aimed to help consumers with their food choices. Under the current rules of European Union nutrition facts labels, the indication of nutrition information on the front-of-pack is not mandatory but could be provided on a voluntary basis.

Food manufacturers get several formats of the food labels in the European Union under the Food Information to Consumers Regulation and/or the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation.

The European Union nutrition facts labels rule No 1169/2011 requires the Commission to facilitate and organise the exchange of information between the Member States, itself and stakeholders on matters regarding the use of extra forms of expression or presentation of the nutrition declaration ("front-of-pack nutrition labelling").

The most important thing is now how food companies can meet all the rules of the EU food labelling. They often have to generate food labels so quickly that they don’t have that much time to wait for reports from a laboratory. In such a circumstance, the best help is the use of a food nutrition analysis and labelling software, which can simplify and streamline the entire process of food nutrition calculation and customization of food labels. Staying compliant with food regulations is the top priority for food companies. But manual or laboratory testing methods are both time-consuming and expensive, which is why food companies opt for an automated solution for food nutrient calculations and labelling.

That said, food manufacturers need a tool that can enable them to analyze food nutrients easily and quickly, without having to ask for any IT professional’s help or their own IT skills. That should have a large food ingredient database and should allow them to add ingredients that are not in the system as needed too.
